Around the World in 40 Cups: Unique Coffee Tasting Map

$25.00

Taste Your Way Around the World of Coffee

Great coffee is grown in a thin band hugging the Earth's equator, in places whose rainfall, elevation and soil combine to create the perfect conditions for the perfect cup.

With this unique wall map, you can celebrate the resulting diversity of flavors. Take a journey around the world by trying (and logging) a coffee from the 40 countries growing the world’s best Arabica beans, using the format you're familiar with from my 33 Cups of Coffee pocket tasting notebook.

Country-by-Country Reviews

Coffee Flavor Wheel

Each of the 40 countries has space to log a coffee from that place, with a spot to write the coffee's name or specific origin, its roaster, variety, the date you tried it, and a unique device called a flavor wheel that helps you visually record a particular coffee’s flavor. For low values of a flavor, fill in dots near the wheel’s center. A shade-grown Guatemalan is used in the example shown.

Super-Sized

The only way to include the wide world of coffee was to make this poster ... wide. It's a whopping 39 inches in the horizontal direction, and 18 inches tall (99 x 46 cm). There's a spot to review a coffee from 40 specialty coffee-producing countries, from massive Brazil to tiny Timor Leste (aka "East Timor").

American-made French Paper

The poster is printed on 100% recycled (30% PCW), chlorine-free French brand paper, made in Niles, Michigan. If you're as big a paper connoisseur as you are a coffee connoisseur, you'll also want to know that it's 100# Speckletone cover in Chocolate.* The poster was designed, tested and printed in sunny Portland, Oregon with soy-based inks.

* I would have called it Coffee, but who am I to argue with a paper that's been sold continuously since 1955?

Great idea, poor execution

I love the idea of this - such a cool way to document coffees and set goals of drinking coffee from countries you haven't before. However, all of the country names are printed in black on dark brown paper, so you can hardly read any of them. I actually had to take a flashlight to the poster so I could figure out which country to fill in. And something about the paper doesn't hold ink at all. Whether with sharpie or pen, the ink just gets absorbed into the poster and is very hard to read. Disappointing.

Sorry about that, Reed. I was trying to put the focus more on the map and review areas, rather than the country labels. But this is good feedback - I'll definitely take it into account on the next print run.
