Bert’s Beer Baster™ Hop Concentrate

When I began my journey in the beer world, I heard a story about a hop-loving brewer who carried a vial of hop oil in his pocket. Whenever he left home, he used the oil to improve pints of the only beer usually available – industrial lager – boosting its appeal, and creating a beer legend in the process.

Inspired by this story, I’ve created a hop concentrate you can use to baste your own beers: those you brew, or ones you encounter in the wild.

"... the bang for the buck factor is high, and in practice, they're perfect for everyone from beer enthusiasts looking to articulate the flavor of individual hops to home brewers who want to add that hops character without all the muss and fuss."

Good Things Come in Small Packages

Each bottle is just 15 mL, but its small size disguises its strength. Just a few drops are enough for most beers, and each bottle contains about 300 drops, or roughly 100 beers.

Single-Varietal Hop Concentrate

I prefer single-origin coffee and varietal wine - I think individual hop varieties are just as interesting, so I create hop concentrates that let you experience a single variety’s characteristic aroma. The current edition features El Dorado® — quite simply, it's pineapple in a glass - super tropical.

Get Creative!

Bert's isn't just for beer - it works well in cider, mead and cocktails (try a gin and tonic with Azacca) that need an aromatic hop lift. Homebrewing? One 15 mL vial in five gallons can totally replace your dry-hopping,* depending on the recipe.

A Bale in a Bottle

It takes approximately half a pound of farm-fresh hops to produce the concentrated fresh hop oil used in each bottle of Beer Baster.

Lupulin Locomotive

The hops used in Bert's Beer Baster are steam-distilled immediately after harvest to ensure maximum freshness. Complex aroma compounds are captured in the oil without the use of chemicals, making Bert’s insanely aromatic.

* Don't use Bert's Beer Baster in the boil kettle - high temps will drive off all the aromatic compounds. Use it on the cool side of brewing, added to secondary fermenter or add when you bottle or keg.

Just what I've been looking for !

I've been trying to cut back on my drinking but I so love the taste of a good IPA. In addition to needing to drink more water. I've bought Non Alcoholic beverages but I hate spending the same money for no alcoholic. After googling for so long to find drops to add to my seltzer water, I was lead here! Read so many reviews and couldn't believe how so many of us were looking for the same.
I bought the Saaz and Centennial. They arrived today. For me the Saaz is pretty good but not fan of the smell. The Centennial is just perfect. I've already almost drank two bottles of water today. That's huge for me since I almost never drink water. So excited to mix the flavors next bottle and to purchase more in the future. Thank you so much!!!

Exactly what I wanted!

Like many here, a huge fan of hoppy IPAs but trying to cut alcohol. Commercial hop water scratched the itch, but was never hoppy enough for me.

I bought Chinook, Centennial, and Columbus and add a few drops of each to 12 oz seltzer and it’s the best I hop seltzer I’ve ever had. Will keep these all in my rotation. Going to try a Azacca, El Dorado, and Amarillo next for some NEIPA juiciness. Will be a fan for life!

And….WHA-LA!

Bravo 33Books! I love a COLD carbonated beer flavor and bite, esp in summer - but I so wanted to get away from the alcohol, calories, etc.. I have a Sodastream and began to wish someone would just sell a decent beer ‘flavor’ that would work with a Sodastream. I found your hop concentrates, and…WHA-LA!
(And far better than just an artificial, engineered ‘flavor.’)

I’m back here tonight to order more. To date, I’ve tried the Saaz, Columbus and the Centennial…. I’d say Saaz and Columbus have a bit more of a base note which is my preference so those may become my ‘Steady Eddys.’ (Tho I’ll try all eventually.)

Best tips for Sodastream or any carbonated-water use might be:
— don’t judge just by the aroma of the pure concentrate - it will mix and be awesome IMO
— we think letting a mixed bottle ‘cure’ in the fridge for 1-2 hours prior to consuming is even better yet
— maybe start with 5-6 drops per typical commercial portion (ex: 12oz bottle size) and adjust from there, up or down on # of drops, per your preference.

Just Plain Awesome!

I was looking for a way to cut down on drinking but I like the taste of beer a bit too much. Me and my SO started to look for alternatives but most of the options were just way to expensive and that's what lead us to 33books and Bert's Beer Baster. My whole experience with this site and Dave the one making and shipping the product has been amazing.

As for the product, I couldn't be happier. 5 - 6 drops in a pint glass of plane seltzer gives a good amount of flavor and results in a super refreshing and delicious drink. It really did hit all the notes when it comes to having a nice cold beer in the afternoon.

I will definitely recommend this to anyone that is looking for a sober night with some flavor or to spice up some cocktails.
